colette is pleased to present My Eye On You, a series of new works by the UK based artist duo Kai & Sunny. It will be their 1st solo exhibition at the gallery after solo shows in London, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. In conjunction with the exhibition, the artists will release a new print edition, available for purchase at the opening reception. Kai & Sunny take inspiration from the natural world and the patterns and forms it manifests. The works on paper measure approximately a meter in both width and height, and are created using coloured archival ballpoint pens, building up images of dizzying, geometric complexity out of single lines. In both form and theme ‘Time’ is in the foundation of each image. The original pieces represent the shifting flow of time. The slow methodic process of building thin line upon thin line in colour creates a tension inside the compositions. The works are intense and powerful but the delicate nature of the lines creates a fragility, as if the structure would collapse if one were taken away. The new works show magnified and stylized drawings of natural occurrences featuring continuous tidal-like waves and intense sun bursts. My Eye On You sees the duo collaborate once again with Element Skateboards on a limited edition series of signed skateboard decks representing Wind, Water, Fire and Earth. The show continues their longstanding collaboration with Toydrum with a limited edition vinyl record box set and show booklet. Friends and peers have been asked to re-envision their music in whatever way they feel fit. Some artists have reworked tracks whilst others have covered their songs. The album sees exclusive collaborations with Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, Trentemøller, Frank Wiedemann, Pye Corner Audio and more.
